Rick Santorum was well known in Congress for his sharp partisan voice. Some thought he took it too far in 2005 when he compared Democrats to Hitler in a floor speech.

Senate Republicans were trying to prevent Democratic filibusters of Bush judicial nominees in 2005. As a part of this effort, Rick Santorum compared his rival lawmakers to "Hitler in Paris." "Remarkable. Remarkable hubris," Santorum says. "I mean, imagine... the audacity of some members to stand up and say, how dare you break this rule? It's the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942: "I'm in Paris. How dare you invade me? How dare you bomb my city? It's mine."
