Journalists Give Big To Hillary Clinton's Campaign

The editor-in-chief of InStyle and the group publisher of the The Hollywood Reporter are among the donors.

A number of journalists -- active, retired, and a couple big names -- were among the donors during the first three months of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign, according to recently released Federal Election Committee filings.

Ariel Foxman, who edits the fashion outlet InStyle gave $2700 and Lynne Segall, the executive vice president and group publisher at The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard, gave $2700.

More than 250,000 people donated to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign with 94% of the donations being $250 or less. The average donation was $144.89 according to a report from MSNBC.

Among some of the highlights:

Ariel Foxman, the editor-in-chief of InStyle, gave $2700.

Lynne Segall, the group publisher of the The Hollywood Reporter, gave $2700.

Margaret Russell, the Architectural Digest editor-in-chief, gave $2700.

Andrew Boynton, a copy editor at Conde Nast, gave $1000.

Eve MacSweeney, an editor Conde Nast, gave $1000.

Stacy Mason, an executive director at WomenCount (a non-profit progressive political organization) and former editor-in-chief of Roll Call, gave $2947.82.

Michael Glasser, a senior attorney editor at Thomson Reuters gave $310.16.

Lesley Seymour, an editor and journalist at More Magazine, gave $2700.

A search for "journalist" brought up 26 results. A search for "reporter" brought up 4 results. A search for "editor" brought up 83 results. Nearly five hundred results came up for "writer" but many of these were in a non-news capacity.

A 2014 report from The American Journalist in the Digital Age at Indiana University, found only 7% of journalists identify as Republicans while 28% claim Democratic Party affiliation. The majority of journalists, 50.2%, identify as independents.
