Democratic Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid said it doesn't matter when the Obama administration informed Congress of the deal to swap five Taliban captives for American prisoner-of-war Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.
Some lawmakers have criticized the Obama administration in recent days for not notifying Congress in advance of the prisoner swap 30 days before, as required by law.
"This is making a big deal over nothing," Reid said. "The whole deal, is it Friday or Saturday? What difference does it make? What difference does it make?"
The administration has argued because of Bergdahl's health they needed to move quickly while the Associated Press reported Thursday, citing officials, that Congress was not told because the Taliban threatened to kill Bergdahl if the news leaked.
Republicans and others have also criticized the deal, saying it sets a precedent for the exchange of prisoners of war in the future.
