"It shows a lack of understanding of our basic constitutional systems, but also a lack of understanding of the terrorist threat and how they operate."

A Republican congresswoman on Wednesday said Trump's plan to temporarily ban all Muslims from coming to the United States goes against American values.

"Well it's unconstitutional, it's un-American, and religion is something that's internal, it's nothing that you necessarily wear on your sleeve," Rep. Barbara Comstock of Virginia said on the John Fredericks Show. "There can be French citizens who have converted to the Muslim faith, and how is he going to ban them. It is a silly idea and it makes no sense."

"It demonstrates his lack of understanding of you have to deal with the terrorist threat," she added, saying the U.S. should target terrorists' behavior and noting that Trump wouldn't ban U.S. citizens who went to Syria from coming back.

"It shows a lack of understanding of our basic constitutional systems, but also a lack of understanding of the terrorist threat and how they operate," Comstock continued, noting that ISIS was always changing their tactics.

Comstock said the terrorist threat was about taking "disaffected young people" to drawn them in.

"That's what cults do," she said, adding that ultimately ISIS would have to be defeated to end the threat.
