E.W. Jackson To Democrats: No YOU Are The Ones Running On "Divisive Social Issues"

"Extreme social policies have no place in Virginia leadership."

The Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Virginia, E.W. Jackson, appears to be trying a "I'm rubber, you're glue" defense against Democrats who have attacked him for past controversial statements on abortion and LGBT rights.

In an email fundraising pitch, Jackson says his Democratic opponent Ralph Northam is "running on divisive social issues" and that he "wants to prevent women from having safer access to health care by relaxing safety standards on abortion clinics!"

"With an extremist focus like this -- how can we trust Ralph Northam to be Lieutenant Governor," Jackson writes.

Jackson told reporters in May at a campaign stop in Fredricksburg, responding to past controversial comments on gays, "I say the things that I say because I'm a Christian, not because I hate anybody, but because I have religious values that matter to me."

Jackson has not backed down from his past comments, saying recently, "the truth is the truth."

Jackson ends his fundraising email by saying: "Help me fight Ralph Northam and his extremist allies, Planned Parenthood. Contribute $25, $50, or even $100 to send a message to Ralph Northam: extreme social policies have no place in Virginia leadership."
