Pizza Hut Is Introducing A Gluten-Free Pizza

Plus, Coors will start selling a gluten-free beer in Seattle and Portland. Not a bad time to be GF.

On Tuesday, Pizza Hut announced that starting Jan. 26, about 2,400 locations in the U.S. will start selling a gluten-free pizza.

Pizza Hut will become the first major pizza chain to offer the certified gluten-free product, USA Today reported. Uno Pizzeria & Grill offers a gluten-free pizza at many locations, however, and in 2013 Domino's began selling a pizza that had a gluten-free crust but was not entirely gluten-free.

The new pizza will be a 10-inch, six-slice pizza, which will go for $9.99. It will be one of the restaurant's lowest-calorie pizzas, and is about 100 calories per serving less than their current "Skinny Slice" pizza.

The crust will be made by popular gluten-free brand Udi's Foods, and the Gluten Intolerance Group will verify that the pizza is a safe, entirely gluten-free product.

The crust, as well as all the toppings for the pizzas, will be kept in a designated Gluten-Free Kit at each location, USA Today reported:

From there, every Pizza Hut Gluten-Free Pizza is to be baked fresh-to-order on parchment paper and delivered in a specially branded Udi's Gluten-Free Pizza box. Also, all employees who make the Gluten-Free Pizza have been instructed to wear gloves and use a designated gluten-free pizza cutter.

That's not the only good news for gluten-free people: Next month, MillerCoors will start selling Coors Peak Copper Lager, a certified "naturally gluten-free" version of Coors beer.

"With more consumers living a gluten free-lifestyle, there are few satisfying choices in the beer category," the brewer stated in a memo obtained by Ad Age. "Our brewers have developed a proprietary brewing process that is specifically designed to deliver a 100% gluten free beer worthy of the Coors name."

For now, the product will only be sold in Seattle and Portland, and there are no current plans to expand nationally "given production limitations."

For gluten-free beer drinkers in other parts of the country, Anheuser-Busch launched a gluten-free beer in 2006, which is called Redbridge and is available nationally. There are also several other gluten-free beers available.
