On Friday morning, 15 bison were killed near a New York State Freeway after they escaped from a farm.
The group of bison escaped from an Albany, NY farm and headed south on the freeway towards New York City, the Daily Gazette reported.
One hunter was arrested after chasing down the bison and killing at least four of them.
The bison's adventures were documented by reporter Patrick Dodson, who said that he came across the group of hunters and asked if he could tag along with them.
The Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said that the hunter was arrested because the situation "was turning into the Wild Wild West."
Private shooters were hired to "put down" the other 11 bison, after the vigilante hunters killed the first four.
Albany County officials said the bisons had to be killed after the group of animals were crossing major roads and traveling near schools.
"It was a mess," said Sheriff Apple in a press conference. "Out of control."
