Bruce Jenner "Cooperating With Authorities" After Fatal Car Crash

There were eight people involved in the three-vehicle crash, the authorities in Malibu confirmed to BuzzFeed News. A representative for Jenner told BuzzFeed News that his client was uninjured.

Updated 8:33 p.m. ET Sunday:

Authorities on Sunday worked to obtain phone records of drivers in a Malibu crash involving Bruce Jenner that left one person dead.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating if Jenner or the other two drivers were texting at the time they crashed on Pacific Coast Highway.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a photo showed Jenner holding a cell phone in the car, but it was unclear how long it was taken before the crash. TMZ published photos Sunday that showed Jenner holding a cigarette, but not a cell phone. According to TMZ, the accident may have been triggered by a vehicle in front of those involved in the crash stopping suddenly.

A representative for Jenner did not comment about what may have caused the crash.

"He is cooperating fully with the authorities and any details relating to the accident will need to come from them at this time," Alan Nierob said.

Jenner later released a statement:

"My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible."

According to officials, Jenner's Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a woman in a Lexus, sending her into oncoming traffic. She died after her car was hit by a Hummer. She was identified as 69-year-old Kim Howe of Calabasas, the L.A. Times reported.

A suspected drunk driver several hours later plowed into the crash scene where investigators worked. Lanes of the coastal highway were closed for about nine hours.

Bruce Jenner was involved in a traffic accident that killed one person on Saturday afternoon, sheriff's officials confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

The three-vehicle accident occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu at approximately 12:12 p.m.

The accident began when a woman in a Toyota Prius stopped or slowed down and was rear-ended by a woman in a Lexus. Jenner, in a Cadillac Escalade pulling a trailer, then rear-ended the Lexus, according to the Los Angeles Times. The collision pushed the Lexus into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a hummer.

The woman driving the Lexus died, and five others were injured, the Times reported.

Alan Nierob, a representative for the reality TV star, told BuzzFeed News that Jenner was uninjured.

Jenner was photographed uninjured by the wreckage by witnesses shortly after the accident occurred.

TMZ reported that members of the Jenner family said Bruce was being chased by as many as five paparazzi at the time of the crash.

However, an L.A. County Sheriff's deputy told BuzzFeed News late Saturday that the paparazzi did not "appear to be a causal factor" in the accident. Deputies later told the Times that Jenner was being followed by paparazzi, but was probably not trying to outrun them.

Jenner reportedly passed a field sobriety test after the crash. Police planned to examine Jenner's cell phone to see if it was in use when the crash happened, the Times reported.

A suspected drunk driver plowed through the closed road Saturday evening and slammed into two of the vehicles from the earlier accident.

The 44-year-old man had recently left a Malibu restaurant when at about 6:40 p.m. he drove through the sheriff's barricade, KTTV reported.
