34 People With Explosives Detained Trying To Cross From Syria To Turkey

Four men, 10 women, and 20 children were detained on Tuesday night by Turkish armed forces, according to reports.


Turkish armed forces detained 34 people attempting to cross the border from Syria with explosives and suicide vests overnight, according to reports.

Four men, 10 women, and 20 children were detained on Tuesday night in the Oguzeli district of southeastern Gaziantep province, Doğan News Agency reported.

Ground troops seized up to 33 pounds (15kg) of explosives and four suicide-bomber vests from the group, who were crossing from an area of Syria controlled by ISIS militants.

“Between 12 and 15 kilos of explosives and four belts that could be used for suicide attacks were found in two bags,” the army said in a statement released to Hurriyet Daily News.


The group were stopped in the border town of Karkamış, the statement said. No information was given on the nationalities of those in the group and the statement did not say whether authorities believe the group was linked to ISIS, the Associated Press reported.
