The Latest Photo Of Pluto Is Insanely Detailed

The image was taken yesterday when the New Horizons spacecraft was at its closest approach to the dwarf planet.

It was taken yesterday about 1.5 hours before New Horizons' closest approach to the dwarf planet.

That flyby began on Tuesday at 7:49 a.m. EDT, but the information it gathered did not arrive at Earth until late Tuesday night.

NASA didn't stop there. They also released the first detailed photo of Pluto's moon Charon:
