Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the hotel has been housing people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. In an [interview with Citylab](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-01-05/how-atlanta-made-criminal-record-status-a-protected-class?srnd=citylab), cofounder Bridgette Simpson said that formerly incarcerated individuals "are discriminated against in everything. We don’t get housing. We don’t get to work at places with competitive pay and livable wages. ... So what this \[ordinance\] means is that doesn’t get to happen anymore. It means that we, just like other protected classes, have certain protection under the law."
