One of three men believed to have been shot by two gunmen in Los Angeles early Wednesday has died, police said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, died hours after being taken to a local hospital in critical condition, said LAPD Sgt. Don Montelibano. The two other men remain in critical but stable condition.

Authorities said the three men were shot after being chased by the gunmen shortly after 9 a.m. in the Mid-City neighborhood.

Investigators detained three people in connection with the shooting, but no arrests have been made, Montelibano said. A trail of blood led officers to a home where the three were at.

Detectives were working on obtaining a search warrant to search the home, Montelibano said.

LAPD Officer Drake Madison said the three men were shot at different places as they attempted to flee from the shooters.

A lockdown, implemented shortly after the shooting, at the nearby campus of Hamilton High School was lifted later in the day.
