Hundreds Dead After Powerful Earthquake Hits Southwest Pakistan

More than 200 people are dead and many more injured after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Pakistan. It also prompted the formation of a new island off the coast, Pakistani officials said.

Mud houses in the remote mountains crumbled as a powerful earthquake shook western Pakistan early on Tuesday.

More than 200 people were killed and around 350 people have been injured in the district of Awaran and the city of Turbut in Balochistan province, officials said Wednesday.

The tremors were felt for about two minutes. Aftershocks could be felt as far as Karachi, Pakistan and New Delhi, India both hundreds of miles away.

On the coast, residents of Gwadar discovered a new mud island had risen from the sea.
