100 Firefighters Battle Blaze At New York's Penn Station

A three-alarm fire tied up some subway service Tuesday morning and could cause delays on the Long Island Rail Road during rush hour.

Around 100 firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire early Tuesday morning, according to the Fire Department of New York.

Early on, NBC New York reported that officials called the blaze "suspicious." Fire marshals later said it wasn't.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. ET at a construction site situated near to the station at West 33rd Street and 8th Avenue, Manhattan.

There did not appear to be any significant injuries, NBC New York said.

By 5:30 a.m, FDNY tweeted that firefighters had the blaze under control.

Traffic near 34th Street was disrupted. A and C subway service was temporarily suspended, and was restored with delays by 6 a.m.
